Goop drains 50 sanity upon eating it and should only be used as a last resort, he only drops goop once about every 2-4 days and isn't reliable as a fuel source. And if you find it that useless in DST, why don't you just leave it alone in its birch forest, then? And it can only do both only if he is alive. Well he gives goop that is a great fuel and can still restore your sanity.
